Bahrain Post issues six commemorative stamps

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT)'s Bahrain Post has issued six commemorative stamps and a souvenir sheet crowned with the portrait of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the first Bahraini Dinar issued (1965–2015).

Bahrain’s national currency identity was established when the Bahraini Currency Board was founded in accordance with the provisions of Decree 6/1964 (Finance) with the power to issue and regulate the Bahraini currency and grant banking licenses.

The new Bahraini Dinar, divided into 1000 fils, was put in to circulation for the first time in 1385H/1965AD, replacing the former Gulf Rupee on the basis of one new dinar for every ten old Rupees. The banknotes were valued at 10 dinars, 5 dinars, One dinar, Half dinar and Quarter dinar, while the coins were valued at 100 fils, 50 fils, 10 fils, 5 fils and One fils. In 1968, the Currency Board issued a 100 fils banknote.

The six stamps are available in 300 fils, and the Souvenir Sheet in BD 2.500 denominations as well as two first day covers at BD 2.500. The stamps are available at all Bahrain Post branches.
