An Asian national murdered his friend using a broken bulb following a financial dispute over BD150, court files indicated.
The accused wanted to postpone his driving license test. The victim reportedly told him he knew people who could help postpone the date and requested BD150 for the help. But the victim allegedly didn't keep his promise, nor did he refund the amount.
“He would avert me every time I ask him to return my money. That day, I angrily approached him in his room and sternly asked him my money. And he gave me 500 Saudi Riyals (BD50)," the accused claimed in his statement.
"I declined the money because I wanted to be paid in full,” he added.
Argument turned into a physical brawl after the victim reportedly insulted the victim, who in the end stabbed the former with a broken bulb. He then fled the scene, leaving the victim in a pool of blood.
This was confirmed by a labourer who was on the scene at the time of the incident.
"First they exchanged insults, but he (the accused) left the room. Later, he returned with the bulb and stabbed the victim, who was lying on his bed," the witness said.
The trial is being heard at the High Criminal Court, which adjourned the case until June 25 after the accused pleaded not guilty.
He, however, will be detained in police custody.
