Man jailed for life for killing roommate
A Nepalese man, accused of murdering his roommate, has been jailed for life.
The defendant is implicated in the killing of Dipendra Basnet at his East Riffa accommodation on May 17.
The victim, father of two children, is believed to have died from a fatal knife wound on his neck, but his genitals were also found to be chopped off.
The defendant allegedly posted a video footage of Basnet’s motionless body on Facebook, along with a confession in a broken English after killing him.
“I am not a normol men howeever I tried to live my live but like this men not give me change to do strogle my life so I kill him plz help me all people for I getting juctice plz plz......,” says the message posted on Facebook in the name of Reemen Tpm.
Both the men were working for a private security company and lived in the shared accommodation where Basnet was killed.
The accused claimed before the Public Prosecution that he was subjected to a sexual attack by the deceased, thus he killed him.
But the forensic doctor’s report stated otherwise, indicating that Basnet had never sexually abused his alleged killer. Witnesses also told the court that the pair was enjoying a ‘normal’ relationship before the incident and even Basnet ‘used’ to ‘tease’ his alleged killer.
The High Criminal Court has also ordered him to be deported once he completes his jail term.
