Washington : Bill Gates is set to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on Wednesday as part of its investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The Microsoft co-founder will appear in a closed-door session, where lawmakers are expected to question him about his past relationship with Epstein. The committee requested Gates's testimony after the release of documents linked to Epstein that included references to Gates and details of several meetings between the two men.

Gates has not been accused of any wrongdoing and has repeatedly denied having any knowledge of Epstein's crimes. A spokesperson said Gates welcomed the opportunity to cooperate with investigators and answer their questions.

In recent years, Gates has publicly described his association with Epstein as a ‘huge mistake.’ He has acknowledged meeting Epstein several times between 2011 and 2014 to discuss philanthropy, despite concerns raised by his then wife, Melinda French Gates. Gates has maintained that he never participated in or witnessed any illegal activity involving Epstein.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has also launched an external review into its past interactions with Epstein and its procedures for evaluating future partnerships. A transcript of Gates's testimony is expected to be released at a later date.
