Collectible toys might usually cost just a few dinars, but one tiny figurine has just changed someone’s life. A rare Labubu toy recently sold for an incredible BD 4,000 on eBay—around 125 times its original price of only BD 32.
The record-breaking piece, known as the Skater Labubu, is a gray-brown figure dressed in a full Vans streetwear look, complete with sneakers, a sweatshirt, and a colorful cap that reads “The Monsters.” It was part of a 2023 collaboration between Pop Mart and Vans, released as a limited-edition “blind box” toy.
Labubu figures are the creation of Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, who began designing the toothy characters about 10 years ago, inspired by Nordic folklore. Their popularity has skyrocketed worldwide, largely due to Pop Mart’s model of selling in small, unpredictable batches.
Typically, Labubu toys cost BD 8 to BD 15 in blind boxes, where buyers don’t know which character they’ll get until opening. The real excitement comes from the super-rare “secret editions,” which can appear as rarely as 1 in 72 or even 1 in 144 boxes.
Collectors are willing to pay thousands for these rare finds. In fact, a pink “secret” Labubu from the Catch Me If You Like Me series was recently resold for BD 760 on eBay.
With prices like these, it seems these tiny creatures are bringing some very big surprises to collectors’ wallets.
