Royal Scimitar wins feature race

Royal Scimitar lifted the HH Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup yesterday in the feature event at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.

Ridden by Neil Callan, the sixyear-old gelding triumphed for owners Al Mohamediya Racing and trainer Fawzi Nass in the eight-furlong event to take home the lion’s share of the BD12,000 total prize.

Ecosystem finished second for Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim and Haider Ebrahim, saddled by Alberto Sanna; while jockey Jason Watson steered Bussento to third place to put two Al Mohamediya-Nass horses in the top three.

Also on yesterday’s eightrace card, which made up the 21st meeting of the 2023/2024 national horseracing season at REHC, Black Shadow hoisted the HH Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa Cup in the second race, held over seven furlongs with a BD3,000 prize.

Lee Newman rode the fiveyear-old to first place for M and E Racing and AM Smith, while Sinatra was second for L&L Racing, Smith and Edinson Rodriguez.

December came third for the Al Mohamediya-Nass-Callan connections. Four Lexus Cups were also up for the taking yesterday, with Nationwide, Gimmie Shelter, Al Nuwayef, and Bay of Whispers each clinching a trophy.

Nationwide won in race five, held over five furlongs with BD5,000 in total winnings.

The six-year-old gelding triumphed for Victorious and Fawzi Nass, with Stephane Ladjadj in the saddle.

Inveigle was second for Sayed Jawad Marzooq, Mahmood Jawad and Adnan Jaffar, while Vanguard Star came third for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Soufiane Saadi.

Gimmie Shelter won the Lexus Cup in race seven, held over 10 furlongs with a BD3,000 total prize.

Tomas Lukasek won for Al Afoo Racing and Jaber Ramadhan, with We Could Be Heroes in second for the Al Mohamediya-Nass-Callan triumvirate. Fourth Time Lucky was third for Al Mallah Syndicate, Abduljaleel Al Mallah and Abdulla Faisal.

Al Nuwayef was triumphant in race four, held over a six-furlong straight with BD2,000 in winnings.

The four-year-old gelding took first place, ridden by Stephane Ladjadj, for Victorious and Nass. Uptoyouordowntome was the runner-up for M and E Racing, AM Smith and Andrew Elliott, while Muasher came third for MJ Racing, Taleb Ali and Husain Makki.

Bay of Whispers captured the Lexus Cup in the day’s third race for Yousif Ahmed Alboainain, Yousif Alboainain and Mohammed Jamil. Hottest Wood was second for Hussain Ali Abdulla, Abduljaleel Al Mallah and Stephane Ladjadj; whereas Neptunian, competing for HH Shaikh Isa bin Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Abdulrahim Jasim, came third after a six-furlong straight, with BD2,000 in prize money.

Also yesterday, Haddar lifted The Mazad Cup in race six, held over nine furlongs with BD2,000 in winnings. Hadder won for the Al Mohamediya-Nass-Callan trio.

Sharid was second for HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Alberto Sanna; while Scruples came third for Ebrahim Rashid Syndicate, Abduljaleel Al Mallah and Soufiane Saadi.

In the day’s first race, a WAHO event held over six furlongs with BD1,500 in prize money, Kuheilan Al Adiyat 1894 triumphed to claim the Late Hasan bin Saleh Al Rowaiee Cup for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Alberto Sanna.
