Bahrain came away with a hard-earned 3-2 victory over Kuwait last night in their opening match of the fifth Arab Futsal Cup 2021, which kicked off yesterday in Egypt. Mohammed Abdulla scored a brace for the Bahrainis while Jassam Anan added the team’s third.

As a result, the nationals, coached by Brazilian Lino Gomes, moved one step closer to booking a berth in the semi-finals.

They are next set to play tomorrow against Mauritania, who lost their first game today against the host Egyptians 1-8. All four teams are in Group A of the competition’s preliminary stage, after which the top two teams move on to the last four. Group B consists of Morocco, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Comoros.

They will be in action today. The semi-finals are scheduled for May 27, while the final will be held on May 29.

The Arab Futsal Cup last took place in 2008, also in Egypt, when Libya was crowned back-to-back champions, after having also won in 2007. Egypt won the tournament’s first two editions, held in 1998 and 2005.

They also were the runners-up the two previous times. Bahrain is making their debut in the tournament this year.
