Bahrain’s Al Fardan Claims Dual Medals in Oran

Bahraini para-powerlifter Amal Al Fardan secured a gold medal in the women’s up to 50kg category and a bronze medal in the best lift at the 2026 African Open Para-Powerlifting Championships, which concluded yesterday in Algeria.
Al Fardan produced a strong and consistent performance throughout the competition, finishing with a winning total of 233kg in the women’s up to 50kg category. Her gold medal came in the overall total, where she outlifted Nigeria’s Rukayat Ajiboye, who took silver with 225kg, while Kenya’s Sonia Tendai claimed bronze with 133kg.
She also earned bronze in the best lift with a successful 80kg attempt. The gold in this discipline went to Ajiboye with 115kg, while Nigeria’s Esther Nworgu secured silver with 114kg.
The competition featured more than 150 athletes from 20 nations and served as a ranking event on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
Officials and team members praised Al Fardan’s performance, highlighting her preparation, strength, and technical execution as key factors behind her success. Her achievement reflects Bahrain’s continued progress in international para-powerlifting and strengthens the country’s medal record on the continental stage.
