Russia’s Alina Korneeva captured the first Manama Open women’s tennis title after defeating France’s Fiona Ferro 6-4, 6-0 in a commanding final on the courts of the Officers Club at the Interior Ministry.
Korneeva edged a tightly contested first set marked by frequent service breaks, using her powerful serve and precise groundstrokes to secure a 6-4 lead before completely dominating the second set 6-0 to seal the victory.
The tournament was hosted by the Bahrain Tennis Federation in highly competitive conditions, with both players showcasing a high level of play in the opening set before the Russian raised her intensity and physical presence to close out the match.
Following the final, Bahrain Tennis Federation president Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and vice-president Sheikh Khalid bin Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa presented the trophies to the players, in the presence of Sheikh Salman bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and tournament referee Dr Ashraf Hammouda.
Sheikh Abdulaziz hailed the technical standard of the inaugural event, saying that hosting such international tournaments strengthens Bahrain’s position on the global tennis map and supports the federation’s ambition to make the kingdom a regional destination for major tennis competitions.
Korneeva expressed her delight at lifting the title, describing the final as one of her toughest matches in recent competitions and praising Ferro as a distinguished opponent, while thanking the organisers for their warm hospitality and “excellent organisation” and hoping to return for future editions of the Winner Alina Korneeva and runner-up Fiona Ferro with officials after the awarding ceremony Manama Open.
