Al Aathem and Masood Shine at Awali Christmas Golf Event

Awali, Bahrain: Hamad Salem Al Aathem claimed the overall honours at the BMMI Christmas Hamper competition at Awali Golf Club, while Salem Khalifa Masood secured the Medal after a closely fought contest in ideal winter conditions on the course.

With temperatures dipping below 20 degrees Celsius, golfers enjoyed what is widely regarded as the best playing season in Bahrain. The annual Christmas Hamper, sponsored for many years by BMMI, drew a strong field as players looked to end the year on a high note heading into 2026.

Al Aathem delivered the standout performance of the day, carding a net 69 thanks to a steady round featuring 13 pars and five bogeys. He finished one shot clear of a tightly packed chasing group to lift the Christmas Hamper prize.

The battle for the best gross score went down to the wire. Lee McIlear posted a 72, but both Nasser Yaqoob Saleh and Salem Khalifa Masood returned rounds of 71. A countback on the final six holes ultimately handed the Medal to Masood.

Prizes were presented by vice-captain Balbir Singh, with division winners including Gérard van Gerwen in Division Three, Rashed Mubarak Busaleh in Division Two, and Lee McIlear topping Division One.
