Bahrain’s men’s futsal team slipped to a 4-0 defeat against Thailand yesterday in their AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 qualifier at Nonthaburi Gymnasium Stadium. It was a second straight loss for the nationals, who had opened with a 0-2 defeat to South Korea on Saturday.

Early damage done

Coach Rafael Fogageiro’s starting five — goalkeeper Sayed Fadhel Mahfoodh, Mohammed Al Sindi, Mohammed Abdulla, Salman Al Mulla, and Ali Al Araibi — were undone inside four minutes when Ammar Ali turned the ball into his own net while trying to cut out a cross. Soon after, Ranchai Chungowongsuk smashed in from an indirect free-kick to double Thailand’s lead.

Mistakes prove costly

Bahrain steadied briefly but faltered again in the 22nd minute, a misplaced pass falling to Abthippong Munplai, who rifled into the top corner. The hosts stayed in control and Osman Musa added the fourth to round off a convincing performance.

Brunei up next

The result leaves Bahrain bottom of Group B alongside Brunei, who lost 15-1 to Thailand in their opener. The two sides meet tomorrow at 12.30pm Bahrain time.
