Luanzinho’s first-half finish proved decisive as the UAE edged Bahrain 1-0 in last night’s friendly at Zabeel Stadium, Dubai.

The Brazilian-born midfielder struck in the 24th minute, capitalising on a misplaced pass in midfield. Mehdi Humaidan lost possession with a loose ball, which was quickly intercepted and lofted over the Bahraini backline. Luanzinho raced clear and, under no pressure, lifted a clever chip over advancing goalkeeper Ebrahim Lutfalla.

Bahrain, coached by Croatian Dragan Talajić, struggled to carve out clear chances despite pressing for a leveller. Their task was made harder when forward Ali Madan was forced off injured before half-time.

The match was arranged as part of both nations’ preparations for the FIFA Arab Cup 2025 in December.

The Reds had drawn 2-2 with Qatar in Doha last week, but this defeat leaves Talajić still searching for his first win of this international window. Bahrain must now turn their focus to November’s Arab Cup qualifier against Djibouti, which they must win to book their place in Group D alongside Algeria, Iraq, and either Lebanon or Sudan.
