Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is once again the undisputed king of the 168-pound division.

The Mexican icon outclassed previously unbeaten Cuban William Scull on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia, winning by unanimous decision to reunify the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and IBF super middleweight titles. The judges scored the bout 115-113, 116-112, and 119-109 — a clear nod to Alvarez’s control, especially to the body.

“It’s a boring fight. He wasn’t trying to win, just survive,” said Canelo after notching his 63rd professional victory. “I hate those kinds of fights.”

Fighting outside the U.S. or Mexico for the first time, Alvarez stalked Scull throughout the contest, punishing the Cuban’s body with thudding blows — 40 in total, compared to just six from Scull. Despite being taller and rangier, Scull rarely troubled Alvarez, landing only a few meaningful shots, including a right uppercut in round five and a counter in round six.

Canelo, 34, now sets his sights on an even bigger challenge — a September showdown with Terence “Bud” Crawford, the undefeated American who unified the welterweight titles in 2023.

“Crawford is one of the best. It’s my pleasure to share the ring with him,” said Alvarez.

Crawford, who stepped into the ring post-fight, issued a warning of his own:  “In September, I’ll show the world what greatness looks like.”
