Pakistan dropped Mohammad Rizwan as their T20 captain yesterday but he will still lead the one-day side on the tour of New Zealand despite their failed Champions Trophy campaign.
All-rounder Salman Agha will skipper the tourists in the fivematch T20 series which starts in Christchurch on March 16. Three ODIs will follow.
Hosts Pakistan are reeling after the defence of their Champions Trophy crown ended after two straight defeats. Their last match against Bangladesh was washed out.
While Rizwan keeps the 50-over captaincy, ace pacer Shaheen Afridi, Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam were all dropped from the one-day squad.
“As head coach I accept the failure but you cannot change things in three to four months,” said head coach Aaqib Javed. Batsman Babar Azam kept his ODI place but like Rizwan will not be part of the T20 squad.
“We want to build a new T20I team so that is why we have included some new players,” said Aaqib. Shaheen retains his T20 place.
