‘India-Gulf Buyer Seller Meet’ on food and beverage held

Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) in associaion with the Embassy of India, Bahrain, organised India-Gulf Buyer Seller meet on food and beverage sector yesterday at Intercontinental Hotel, Bahrain.

The event was inaugurated by Piyush Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Bahrain. Mr Abdulrahman Juma, Chairman of Bahrain India Society, was also present at the event. TPCI led a business delegation of 13 leading Indian food and beverage exporters which participated in the event.

Forty-five leading retailers, importers, distributors and wholesalers of food products and beverage importers of Bahrain participated in the BSM. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Piyush Srivastava said that India intends to be a partner of Bahrain towards its food security efforts and turn the traditional trading relations in this sector into a strategic one. He mentioned opportunities for investment in food parks in India and various initiatives towards improving connectivity and logistics to tap potential in this sector.

The event provided an opportunity for the exporters of India and Bahrain importers of food and beverage to connect and explore new business opportunities.

India-Bahrain Bilateral trade has registered growth of 54 per cent in 2021-22 and reached the highest ever level of $1.65 billion. Food and agro products are main components of bilateral trade.

India, traditionally, is a major supplier of rice, meat, sugar, spices, fruits and vegetables to Bahrain. However, in recent times, Indian processed food products, organic and healthy food items and dairy products are also getting popular in Bahrain due to their high quality and reasonable pricing, a statement issued by the Indian Embassy said.
