The Chaturbhuj family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mr. Lalchand Chaturbhujdas, the esteemed Chairman of Chaturbhuj Mulchand & Sons, on Tuesday, 18th March 2025. A visionary entrepreneur and a pillar of Bahrain’s business community, Mr. Lalchand’s contributions have left a lasting imprint on the Kingdom’s commercial and gold trade sectors.
With a legacy spanning over seven generations, the Chaturbhuj family’s association with Bahrain dates back to the early 1850s, when they established business interests in pearling, foodstuffs, and real estate. Mr. Lalchand played a pivotal role in the family's continued growth, spearheading diversification efforts that reshaped Bahrain’s gold industry.
In 1948, he introduced gold bullion trading to the Kingdom, setting a new benchmark for the industry. He was the first to bring Mexican and Turkish gold coins, as well as sovereigns, into Bahrain, transforming the local market. His innovative foresight also led to the introduction of 24-carat 5 tola bars for goldsmiths, a move that significantly contributed to Bahrain’s gold manufacturing sector and earned him the title of the "Gold Man of Bahrain."
Continuing his entrepreneurial journey, Mr. Lalchand established the Kingdom’s first gold retail store in 1967 on the historic Bab Al Bahrain road—a landmark establishment that remains operational to this day. His commitment to innovation extended to bespoke jewelry manufacturing, where he founded Gumaash Creations, specializing in "Made in Bahrain" jewelry with a particular focus on natural pearl craftsmanship, preserving the nation's cultural heritage.
Beyond his business acumen, Mr. Lalchand was a respected figure in the community. The Chaturbhuj family has maintained strong ties with the Bahraini Royal Family, and in a testament to their longstanding relationship, the late H.H. Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa personally visited Mr. Lalchand in Manama to offer condolences on the passing of his father, Mr. Chaturbhujdas. The family continues to hold deep gratitude for the kindness and support extended by the Royal Family throughout the years.
Mr. Lalchand’s passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy of entrepreneurship, innovation, and commitment to Bahrain’s prosperity will continue to inspire generations to come. The Chaturbhuj family remains devoted to honoring his vision, ensuring that his contributions to the Kingdom’s business landscape endure for years to come.
His memory will forever be cherished, and his impact will remain woven into the fabric of Bahrain’s history.
