Nana Patekar dies at 75 after cardiac arrest in Goa

Panaji: Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, on Thursday.

Patekar was found unconscious at his home and taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted CPR for around 45 minutes. He was declared dead at about 5.20am. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death.

Born Vishwanath Patekar, he made his Hindi film debut with 'Gaman' in 1978 and went on to become one of India's best-known actors in Hindi and Marathi cinema.

His major films included 'Parinda', 'Krantiveer', 'Agni Sakshi', 'Khamoshi: The Musical', 'Ab Tak Chhappan', 'Apaharan', 'Natsamrat' and 'Welcome'. He won three National Film Awards and received the Padma Shri in 2013.

The actor's death prompted tributes from across the film industry. Maharashtra has also announced that he will receive a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to cinema and theatre.
