Arab, GCC Leaders Condemn Houthi Attacks
Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt, Syria and the GCC expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia after attacks on airports in Abha and Riyadh
Riyadh: Arab governments and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) condemned the Houthi attacks on two Saudi airports that left three killed and 36 injured.
Two women, a Moroccan and an Algerian, were killed and 28 people injured in the attack on Abha International Airport in Asir province. A Sudanese man was killed and eight people were injured at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, according to Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation.
The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attacks, which came amid a sharp escalation in fighting between the group and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces.
Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt and Syria condemned the strikes and expressed support for Saudi Arabia. The GCC also denounced the attacks, saying the targeting of civilian airports was a serious escalation and a violation of international law.
GCC Secretary-General Jassim Al-Budaiwi said member states stood united with Saudi Arabia and supported measures taken to protect its security and territory.
The Muslim World League and the Arab Interior Ministers Council also condemned the attacks, particularly the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
