Umm Al Hassam rioters lose appeal

The High Appeals Court upheld the sentences issued against five men accused of participating in riots. They were sentenced to one-and-a-half years behind bars each, but they appealed their sentences.

The defendants are involved in the riot, which broke out on February 14, 2013, where they used firebombs in attacking police officers stationed in Umm Al Hassam. They also pelted one on an expatriate-owned car, causing damages to it.

According to court files, police officers at the scene said that they were attacked by 20 masked rioters, but investigators only managed to identify five culprits.
