Trump Rules Out Iran Attack Before US Midterms
US president says Washington is holding “productive discussions” with Tehran while maintaining pressure on Iran.

US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States will not launch an attack on Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, while indicating that Washington and Tehran are engaged in what he described as “productive discussions.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States would not attack Iran at any time before the upcoming US midterm elections. The statement marks a clear declaration on the timing of any potential US military action against Tehran.
Trump said discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran were continuing, although he did not provide details on the nature of the talks or identify specific areas where progress had been made.
At the same time, Trump indicated that the United States would continue its economic and maritime pressure on Iran. He said the US blockade of Iranian ports remains in place, while also claiming that oil continues to move through the Strait of Hormuz in “record numbers.”
The Strait of Hormuz remains a major focus of the wider confrontation, as the waterway is a critical route for global energy shipments. Recent attacks involving commercial vessels in and around the Gulf have added to concerns over the security of maritime traffic and energy supplies.
Trump also reiterated the US position that Iran “will not have a nuclear weapon,” but did not provide further details about how Washington intends to achieve that objective or whether the ongoing discussions could lead to an agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme.
The latest statement comes after reports that the US military had been preparing options for a possible resumption of major operations against Iran. US officials told NBC News that military options had been prepared for the president, but no final decision had been made.
Trump’s announcement therefore comes amid mixed signals over the next phase of the conflict. While Washington has continued to maintain pressure on Tehran, the president is now publicly ruling out an attack before the November 3 elections and pointing to ongoing discussions with Iran.
The US military presence in the region has also remained significant, with additional naval forces expected in the area later this month.
For now, Trump’s statement establishes November 3 as a key date in the US approach to the Iran conflict, while leaving the course of military and diplomatic developments after the election open.
