An event to mark the Hindi Day was held at the Embassy premises in Seef which was attended by more than 150 members of the Indian community. Hindi Day is observed on 14 September every year to commemorate the adoption of Hindi as one of the official languages in India.

Ceremony

His Excellency Mr. Vinod K. Jacob, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Bahrain, presided over the ceremony and in his speech emphasized the importance and utility of Hindi; highlighted the initiatives taken by Government of India for propagation of Hindi; Honoble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’; strengthening of e-tools for Hindi; and initiative by ICCR to conduct Hindi classes for international students under Visitors Programme amongst other efforts.

Ambassador Jacob also mentioned that to increase Hindi’s visibility in international forums, leaders are increasingly making statements in Hindi, including in particular the address of Honoble Prime Minister Modi at the United Nations.

UNESCO also celebrates Hindi Day where Hindi scholars participate.

The propagation of Hindi has gained new momentum in the digital age and with the increasing use of new technology, social media and online mediums. Hindi has become an interesting language, especially among the youth.

The event included performances from Embassy officials and their family members and a short presentation from members of Pratham Hindi Toastmasters – a major diaspora grouping dedicated to promoting Hindi in Bahrain.

In addition, a fort-night long celebration, as part of “Viksit Bharat” campaign initiated by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, kicked off with the celebration of Hindi Day.
