World’s first stamp to be showcased in the Kingdom

The world’s first stamp will be showcased in the Kingdom at an exhibition to be held this week, it was announced. The “Bahrain Stamps Exhibition 2019” will be hosted in Bahrain starting this Wednesday to April 6. The event will feature various distinguished and rare stamps from all over the world that are from various points in history. Stamp collectors from all over the Gulf region are expected to attend this event.

The event will be held this week coinciding with the 39th anniversary of the founding of the Bahrain Stamp collecting and Currency society, which was launched in April 1980. Rare coins will also be on display at the exhibition. One of the main attractions will be the first stamp in history, which is Black Penny.

It was first issued in Great Britain on 1 May 1840 but was not valid for use until 6 May. It features a profile of Queen Victoria. The Black Penny is considered one of the rarest and most elegant stamps in existence. A number of envelopes and old correspondence will also be on display. An auction will be held for the rare items.

Bahrain is home to a large segment of stamp collectors. The event which will be held in Ramli Mall will serve as a meeting point for them, according to organizers.
