Berlin: A stranded humpback whale off Germany’s Baltic coast has become the focus of a dramatic rescue effort, drawing public attention and expert concern.

The whale, nicknamed Timmy, has been stuck in shallow waters for weeks after entering the Baltic Sea, where low salt levels make survival difficult. Rescue teams have been trying different methods to guide or move the animal back to deeper waters and eventually towards the North Sea.

Authorities recently approved a fresh attempt to save the whale, with plans involving lifting and transporting it safely. However, experts remain divided. Some believe the animal is too weak to survive such an operation and warn that further intervention could cause more harm than good.

Despite these concerns, the situation has captured widespread public interest, with people closely following updates on the whale’s condition. The rescue effort highlights the difficult balance between trying to save wildlife and ensuring the animal does not suffer further.
