Police yesterday foiled an attempt to smuggle five kilogrammes of hashish worth BD30,000 through King Fahd Causeway. The joint operation by the Anti-Narcotics Department of the General Administration of Investigation and Criminal Evidence and Customs Affairs also arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the case.

The suspect, police said, arrived at the customs area of the bridge in a car. Customs officers, who searched the car, managed to find about five kilogrammes of hashish in several hidden compartments inside.

Police then quickly took the man into custody, pending further investigation.

In a statement, the Anti-Narcotics Department at the General Department of Investigation and Criminal Evidence confirmed the arrest. Public Prosecution is mulling further legal actions.
