Around 120,000 pills were released without prescriptions at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), in a case involving two employees who have been arrested for illegally selling them to a third party, the Ministry of Interior revealed yesterday.

The ministry said that the Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security director-general determined the large quantity of missing sedatives and narcotic pills following an investigation into the case. The probe also revealed poor supervision of employees who dispense medicines to patients, and the failure to follow the required procedures which eased the exploitation of the process.

Three people have already been arrested for their involvement in the case, including the two SMC employees, along with the person they were selling the pills to. The director-general added that necessary legal procedures have been taken and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
