More than 7000 ships registered with Coast Guard

Manama : The overall number of ships registered with the Coast Guard authorities topped 7467.

Muharraq Coast Guard Base Commander Colonel Abdulrahman Jumaa revealed this as he took part in “Al-Amn”, a security programme aired weekly on Radio Bahrain, in cooperation with the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Security Media and Culture.

Under maritime safety regulations, ship captain should be above the age of 18 and the ship should carry safety tools including life jackets, fire extinguishers and first aid kit onboard.

Colonel Jumaa stressed the need to sail within Bahrain’s territorial waters and equip ships with the Global Positioning System (GPS).

Coastguard Legal Affairs Chief Captain Nayef Al-Sheikh said that the law 2 of 2018 mandates the Coastguard authorities to license small ships.
