Fresh complaint against food supplier for fraud

ManamaFresh allegations of fraud have been raised against the food stuff supplier that recently came under government scrutiny for allegedly supplying expired food products.

According to the complainant, an ex-employee who sued the company for malpractices earlier, the company submitted fake employment contracts of its employees with fraudulent signature to the Labour Management Regulatory Authority (LMRA), to save on fees paid to the government. The document, which was sent to DT News, showed a lower salary while her original contract reflected a higher salary.

“I recently found out that the document they submitted to LMRA was fake. The salary mentioned in the fake document was BD100, but in reality my salary when I worked there was BD600. They committed this fraud in order to pay less fees to the government.

The company was recently in the storm for supplying food ingredients to hotels, schools and restaurants after allegedly tampering with product label. Apparently, the company changed the expiration dates on the labels to be able to legally sell the items.

“I am not surprised by this at all. Considering all the bigger crimes that they have committed, this is only tip of the iceberg. They supplied expired food and we have no idea how much that must have impacted the public, how many people would have been affected by it,” she said.

She said the company was involved in other forms of fraud as well. “They are licensed only to sell food ingredients, however, they have also been illegally selling machines. Apart from this they also committed other frauds related to shipping,” she added.

Earlier, the ex-employee had presented a video she secretly recorded at the company premises of workers allegedly tampering with food labels. She had used it as an evidence to back up her claims.
