‘If you ditch us, so shall we’

People who ditch Bahrain at the time of need does not deserve the government’s support, said a minister.

The Minister of Industry, Commerce Tourism Zayed R Al Zayani criticised businessmen in Bahrain for forsaking the country at a time when the economy needed the most support.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the Business Opportunities Forum inauguration in Manama and was responding to Bahraini businessman Yousef Al Masha'al’s allegation that people were transferring their money outside Bahrain due to the apparent political crisis.

"What is being done to solve the economic, political and security crises that has hit the country, which has forced businessmen to transfer their money outside Bahrain, while the government only depends on oil,” asked Yousef.

In reply to this, the minister said, “Why would businessmen forsake Bahrain by transferring capitals outside the country? Whoever transfers his money does not deserve the government's support and should give up his Bahraini identity."
