UAE wins ‘Best Govt Practice in Community e-Participation’ award

The UAE Ministry of Interior, represented by the Security Support Department, at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, won the ‘Best Government Practice in Community e-Participation’ award within the fourth GCC e-Government Award hosted by Bahrain.

Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, presented the award to Director of the E-Auditing Department, Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shimmari, and Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah, Director of the Security Media Department at the UAE General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

Ali Abdullah thanked the keenness of the Security Media Department to enhance interaction and encourage positive communication with the public, using the different social media tools.

He said the award would enhance communication between the Ministry of Interior and society, and reinforce community members’ trust and satisfaction with the qualitative efforts, initiatives and services.

He noted that winning the award doubles the responsibility towards the community and prompts to further develop the Ministry’s e-services.

“The Ministry of Interior has used social media platforms, such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Google Plus as a fast communication channel with the public, to spread news, awareness and warnings about rumours that are shared from unreliable sources,” said Ali Abdullah. He also noted that using social media to communicate with the public is a persistent need for the Ministry of Interior, because these channels have become an integral and essential part of everyone’s professional and personal daily life.

Director of the Social Media Centre at the Security Media Department First Lieutenant Fatima Al Shehhi, noted that social media have helped to increase social awareness through videos, pictures, and tweets that use innovative and modern tools to increase interaction with community members.
