The minister commended the participation of brilliant students from Bahrain and abroad in the event accredited by The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN).

He thanked Bahrain Bayan School, chaired by Dr. May Sulaiman Al Otaibi for hosting the annual platform, which reflects keenness on promoting youth, developing their intellectual, scientific and cultural aptitudes and fostering dialogue skills to opine on current issues challenges confronting the modern world.

He underlined Bahrain’s drive to develop education and enhance the standard of training programmes to ensure graduates meet the needs of the labour market, foster healthy lifestyle, set up youth clubs and centres and promote awareness of human rights, civic and political liberties stipulated in the constitution.

He underscored the objectives of the Government Action Plan (GAP) and the National Youth Strategy which aim at developing Bahraini competency, stressing the importance of platform in enhancing students’ toastmasters and rhetorical and leadership skills and acquire the basics of diplomacy and thus a taste of work at the United Nations.

This year’s edition, he said, coincides with the forthcoming ministerial meeting on the implementation of the 2030 Sustained Development Agenda in Arab countries. It will be held next month under the patronage of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, recipient of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Award for Information and Communication Technology in Sustainable Development.

The Minister highlighted security, intellectual and economic challenges which are now confronting the Arab region and the whole world. He underlined the vital role of the national media in raising youth awareness of their rights, cementing their patriotism and immunizing them against the scourge of fanaticism and delinquency by disseminating human values, respect of national sovereignty, unity and cohesion, all forms of religious, sectarian and racial hatred and combating terrorism.

Dr. Al Otaibi and Bahrain Bayan School board members thanked the Minister for patronizing the ceremony and encouraging the participants to continue paying heed to national issues as well as regional and international challenges.
