MP calls Bahrain infrastructure "poor"

Financial and Economic Affairs Committee member MP Adel Hameed of the Council of Representatives said that the rain in the past few days revealed the fragile nature of the infrastructure in many areas of Bahrain.

He called on the government to hold those responsible accountable for the false promises made on preparation for the rainy season as the reality has shown otherwise.

The MP went on to say that the rain caused closure of some roads and streets.

Government buildings, health centres and schools were impossible to reach, which reflects on the weak infrastructure that requires drastic solutions and superficial treatments, he noted.

The Financial and Economic Affairs Committee member considers that providing vacuuming water-tank trucks is not a real solution to the problem. What needs to be done are procedures that will lead to projects enhancing the Kingdom’s infrastructure to prevent water from accumulating, he noted.

“Even with the vacuum trucks, there has been a shortage and they weren’t prepared to handle the situation despite the availability of weather forecasts for more than a week. Officials should have provided more vacuum trucks,” he opined.

Talking about the state budget, the MP enquired, “When approving the state budget, we spared no effort to provide ministries, agencies and government bodies all the funding they require for infrastructure projects. So where did all of the money go to?”

He stressed that the House of Representatives will follow up the issue.
