EDC project discussed

Minister of Industry and Commerce Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani chaired the 23rd Joint Economic Committee between the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry in presence of BCCI Chairman Khalid Al Moayyed and members from both sides.

During the meeting, they reviewed a number of common topics between the two sides including the latest developments of Export Development Centre (EDC) project where the Ministry in collaboration with other stakeholders prepares to launch it. They also discussed the latest development of small and medium enterprises (SME toolkit) as well as Business Licensing Integrated System (BLIS). The Minister of Industry and Commerce reviewed the ministry’s efforts to extend the work level of Tariff Preference Level (TPL) for textiles in the framework of the free trade agreement between Bahrain and the US.

In regard to establishing a company to support food security in Bahrain, they reviewed the most important results and agreements and the effort made by the chamber with the Thai side, where it was agreed between the two sides to change the company’s name to accommodate other nations to cooperation with Bahrain in this regard. The minister expressed its readiness to provide the support and assistance for such vital projects.

They also discussed project developments of a new “expo city” and that the Ministry continues its efforts to implement the project soon.

In regard to develop Manama Market, the Minister touched on the Ministry’s efforts in referring to the proposals and studies that have been made with the tourism sector, hoping to commence implementing the project at earliest in partnership with the Old Market Committee of BCCI.

Assistant Undersecretary of Domestic Trade Hameed Rahma gave a visual presentation about simplified system for the classification of business activities (ISIC4) at the event.
