12 teams for hockey clash

The Kingdom of Bahrain Open Six-A-Side Hockey Championship is all set to take place today at St. Christopher’s Senior School in Isa Town with 12 teams from Bahrain and abroad taking part.

Underway from 9pm, the day- long tournament is organised by the Bahrain Hockey Association and under the patronage of Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar.

It will be attended by special guest Jude Felix, a world cup Indian captain, Asian games champions trophy player and a global hockey icon who has over 250 caps for India.

Felix has received the highest sports honour from the president of India and is recognised as one of the seven best hockey players in the world. The tournament will be conducted by International umpire Raghu Prasad of India, who recently received the golden whistle for umpiring 100 senior international matches at many major international tournaments including the London 2012 Olympic Games and last year’s Rabobank Hockey World Cup.

Taking part include six from Bahrain and six from other GCC countries who will be divided into four pools of three.

Bahrain Falcons, Bahrain Hawks, Hungry Hamours, Ministry of Interior, Wizards and Young Stars will represent Bahrain and the six overseas squads are UTSC and Oman Veterans from Oman, Saudi Arabia’s Dadabhai Saudi, Dubai Republicans of the UAE, Kuwait Hockey of Kuwait and Wanderers of Qatar.
