Call to support Bahrain national football team

Riffa

--

The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) have sent out a call to support the Bahrain national football team for their Group H second round match tonight with North Korea starting at 6.40pm at the National Stadium in Riffa in the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asia Cup qualifiers.

BOC sports advisor Abduljalil Asad said the committee has sent a letter to all national sports federations in an attempt to stand behind the team in this crucial game, to be held at the National Stadium in Riffa.

Bahrain coached by Argentina’s Sergio Batista must win the full three points to keep their chances alive in the qualifiers, from which the eight group winners and best four runners-up advance to the third round of qualifiers which will feature two groups of six teams. Presently Bahrain are third in the group after losing its only game back in June 2-1 away in the Philippines. North Korea top the group after securing six points from two games after a 4-2 win over Uzbekistan and being awarded a 3-0 win against Yemen who played an ineligible player back in June, while Philippines are second on goal difference after its second win by 2-0 against Yemen with Uzbekistan fourth and Yemen fifth respectively after losing their opening qualifiers.

Today in another match, Uzbekistan take on Yemen in Tashkent and next Tuesday Yemen host Bahrain in Doha and Philippines face-off with Uzbekistan at home in Bocaue.
