Bahrain signs deal for Yemen Cardiac centre

Riyadh : Bahrain will build a Cardiac Centre in Yemen as part of an initiative to tackle the humanitarian crisis in the country based on the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. 

A cooperation agreement to this end was signed yesterday by RCO Secretary-General, Dr Mustafa Al-Sayed and UAE’s Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Foundation Director-General, Mohammed Hajji Al-Khoury. 

The announcement to build a “cardiac centre” in Yemen was made by the Bahraini government during the Kingdom’s participation at a United Nations (UN) fundraising event in Geneva, Switzerland, for Yemen. Around $2 billion of funding was raised to scale up aid delivery in Yemen at the UN conference. The UAE and Saudi Arabia pledged nearly $1bn to support the UN Humanitarian Response Plan in Yemen for 2018.

The agreement, Dr Mustafa Al-Sayed said, adds to HM King Hamad’s noble initiatives to extend support to stricken brotherly and friendly countries. 

Hailing the initiative, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Representative of HM the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs and Board of Trustees Chairman of the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO), stressed that RCO’s strategy is based on sustainable development.

RCO secretary-general highlighted the efforts of Bahrain, represented by RCO, to support the Yemeni people, citing the 1000-tonne shipment of relief aid and the other shipments, as well as the continuous cooperation with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and the Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Foundation.

Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Foundation’s director-general praised HM the King’s great initiatives, especially the sustainable development projects. 

Yemeni Minister of Local Administration and chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief, Abdussalam Abdulla extended thanks and appreciation to HM the King for humanitarian stances, and interest in the situation in Yemen. He asserted that the health centre will contribute to the development process in Yemen.

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre’ Abdulla Al-Ruwaili said that the kind humanitarian gesture adds to HM King Hamad’s noble initiatives, stressing that it will contribute to reducing the sufferings of the brotherly Yemeni citizens.
