Bahrain condemns attack on checkpoint in Saudi Arabia

ManamaBahrain strongly condemned attack against a checkpoint in Asir region of Saudi Arabia resulting in the death of a number of security officers. 

In a statement released, Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry reiterated its firm support to Saudi Arabia against all forms of violence and extremism. 

The ministry said it backs all measures by Saudi Arabia to “deter anyone who attempts to subvert security and stability”. 

State-run Saudi Press Agency said that four Saudi officers were shot dead and four others wounded in the gun fire. 

Three officers were instantly killed when the outpost came under attack, the Saudi Press Agency reported, without specifying who was behind it.

“Security officials have succeeded in identifying a number of suspects involved in the crime and arrested two of them, both Saudi nationals,” SPA said.

“In the interest of the investigation, their names cannot be revealed.”

A third Saudi suspect opened fire as he tried to escape, killing another officer and wounding four others, SPA added.

Arab News quoting Saudi Interior Ministry said that police units chased the attackers, and captured 2 of them and a third was killed in the fire exchange that followed.

The ministry also announced that all those involved in the attack are Saudi Arabian nationals. 

Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry expressed deepest condolences and consolation to the bereaved families and relatives.

It commended the strenuous efforts exerted by the Saudi security forces to maintain security and stability for citizens and residents.
