Four sports for Baby Games

Manama : The First Baby Games, to be organized in Bahrain next month, will bring four sports into action. The first edition of the games is scheduled from May 5 to 10 and is organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labour and Social Development.

Athletics, gymnastics, football and basketball will take place during the First Bahrain Baby Games, which is open to kids aged below 6 years, with events to take place at Isa Sports Complex in Riffa.

According to Organising Committee vice chairman and projects specialist Mamoon Al Khateeb, 35 kindergartens and 28 nurseries have submitted their entries for the six- day baby games.

However, Al Khateeb noted that registration is still open for those interested in taking part. The opening ceremony will feature an entertaining race for babies below one year of age.

Al Khateeb added that the main objective of this event is to promote sports among babies from their earliest ages and with the encouragement of their parents.

It also aims to create an awareness among youngsters to practice sports exercises, and promote the Olympic principles and values at a young age.

The athletics programme includes a medley relay (4 years), hurdles race (3 years) and] 15m freestyle race (2 years), while other parts of the programme include freestyle moves contests for gymnastics, a football free-kick, free throws basketball competition, and a weightlifting show.
