Indian Schools share glory
Manama : The Indian School and New Indian School shared glory in the intermediate boys stage, while St Christopher’s School dominated the secondary stage in athletics events, part of the ongoing Fifth School Mini Olympics.
On the first day of athletics, 474 students from various schools from around Bahrain competed in a variety of contests at the Khalifa Sports City Sodium in Isa Town.
In the intermediate stage, which featured long jump, high jump, 600m, 150m and 1,200m races, the Indian School and New Indian School took two gold medals each.
The secondary stage saw St Christopher’s School stamp authority, taking home six medals in total (3 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze).
The athletics championships is scheduled to finish today (Thursday), the concluding day of the School Mini Olympics events, while the awards ceremony will take place tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Abdulrahman Kanoo School had a dominant day in swimming at the Bahrain Swimming Association premises, located at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
Well-contested races involving students from different schools across Bahrain’s four governorate took place, but eventually it was Abdulrahman Kanoo who prevailed winning seven gold medals.
Their gold medal winners included a double by Aya Adel, who scored 14.20 and 19.01 seconds in the under-12’s 25m freestyle and breaststroke, respectively.
Al Zain Tarek also captured a brace of gold medals winning the 25m breaststroke and butterfly.
Ala’a Adel (13.19 secs) in the 25m freestyle was the other gold medallists for Abdulrahman Kanoo.
Other winners were under-12’s Sarah Stewart (25m breaststroke & 50m butterfly) of St Christopher’s (u-13, 50m freestyle), Asma Le Fahler (50m freestyle) of St. Christopher’s.
In the 100m relay, AMA School’s Bayan Aqeel, Layal Bader and Layan Hasan topped the race in the under-12 category, while the under-13 race was won by St. Christopher’s Arabella, Freya and Asma.
The Mini Olympics is brought up for the fifth successive year by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, with over 3,500 students from 58 government and private schools competing in a record 20 sports this year.
