Towards a Healthy Governorate

Manama : ‘Health Cities’ project envisaged by the Capital Governorate will help Bahrain achieve the highest health standards set by the World Health Organisation, said Governor of the Capital Governorate, Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa. 

Speaking during a meeting with Arab Gulf University officials, Shaikh Hisham said that the Governorate and the Ministry of Health have gone a long way in creating the suitable atmosphere for the implementation of this initiative since its launch last year. 

The project, Shaikh Hisham said, will transform the governorate into a ‘Health Governorate’ by protecting people health through the promotion of healthy lifestyles and prevention of diseases.

The meeting was held in the presence of Dr Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Ohali, Chairman of the Arab Gulf University discussed means of cooperation with AGU for implementing the project.  

Shaikh Hisham told the meeting that the project will become a model to emulate for other governorates in the Kingdom. 

In his response, Dr Al-Ohali told Shaikh Hisham that the university has a team of academic experts in the field of medicine and public health who have been selected by the WHO to hold several advisory positions on various projects. They are doubtlessly prepared to make this project succeed.”

Dr Al-Ohali also told the meeting that the university is in plans to introduce unique and rare programmes that meet the strategic and future needs of the Arab Gulf society, which includes a PhD in Molecular Medicine and a Masters in Personalised Medicine. 

He added: “The latter seeks to promote a new trend in medicine based on designing treatments and preventive programs for each case based on its genetic and environmental characteristics, to ensure the highest rates of health and well-being.”
