All set to go for Sports Day

ManamaThe 2018 Bahrain Sports Day is all set to take place today with a packed sporting and entertaining programme to be held across Bahrain’s fourth governorates.

To be held for the second consecutive year, the 2018 Bahrain Sports Day, is organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), and targets both citizens and the expat community of all ages.

This year’s Bahrain Sports Day will involve all ministries, other government authorities, and the private sector in an attempt to promote sports as a healthy lifestyle.

The organizing committee, headed by BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, has completed all arrangements prior to the activities kick off.

“We are so grateful for our sports federations, for their cooperation with us in bringing this event, which is in line with the directives of the presidents of national GCC Olympics committee to have a national sport day organized in all over the Gulf region,” said Askar.

Askar said they have set up many attractions for tomorrow and they are organized by national sports federations at the purpose-built Sport Village near the National Stadium at Isa Sports City in Riffa City, including an open walkathon.

“More than 250 activities will take place on the day in an attempt to promote awareness among people to exercise, for its significant importance to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” added Askar.

Among the most anticipated event taking place today is the ‘Fun Run’, to be held at the village to promote the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. The 18th Asian Games involving 40 sports and 462 events will be held in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2.
