Kanoo Group Chairman Mubarak Jassim Kanoo passes away

Manama : Well-known businessman and Chairman of Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo Group (YBA), Mubarak Jassim Kanoo, passed away, at the age of 88, early morning yesterday after a long battle with illness. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Abu Dhabi. 

Businessmen from all over the world are expected to attend the funeral which will be held tomorrow after dhuhr prayers at Manama Cemetery. 

 “It is with sadness that we announce Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo Group Chairman Mubarak Jassim Kanoo passed away early this morning,” Kanoo Group said in an official statement. 

 Mubarak Jassim Kanoo will always be remembered for his pivotal role in helping to shape the economy of Bahrain. Born in Bahrain in 1930, Kanoo was a well-known name among the business elite in Bahrain and has played a significant role in growing Kanoo Group over the years.

His leadership turned YBA into one of the most prestigious family institutions in the Gulf and Arab countries. 

In 1951, he took over the family’s travel business, which had just three employees at the time. Today the YBA group has over 4,000 employees. Regionally Kanoo Group has operations in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E., Oman and Egypt. 

In 1984, Kanoo’s role in strengthening commercial relations with Britain was recognised by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and received the Honorary Knight Commander of the British Empire.

Kanoo was active in social and charity fields in Bahrain and headed the Bahrain Charity Society and Bahrain Kidney Patients Friendship Society. He also built several mosques in Muharraq, Manama and Hidd. 

Condolences will be accepted for men until Thursday at Kanoo Majlis in Mahooz and for women at late Hamad Kanoo’s home at Villa 1328, Road 3429, Block 334 in Mahooz.”
