Raspberry Pi-Let’s explore

When I was asked to write an article, many relevant topics came to my mind. It was not an easy task to choose one subject. As I am eagerly waiting for my Raspberry Pi from the U.K, I thought it would be a good idea to write about it.

Now, to all the food lovers out there, no, I have not misspelt ‘Raspberry Pie’. The ‘Raspberry’ part stands for the fruit while the ‘Pi’ part, in fact, stands for the Python programmer. It is a credit card sized single board computer, also known as a motherboard. It can be used for everyday tasks and can even support some games like Minecraft.

This computer is a PCB, that is, it is a Printed Circuit Board. To start this Raspberry Pi, we need an SD card, which provides memory to boot the computer. Within the package, there is an adapter which provides power to the machine. In addition, you need a wired mouse and a wired keyboard, you can install the Raspbian O.S. or go ahead with the Linux O.S. which is pre-installed. The default login ID will be pi and the password will be raspberry, all in short letters. You also need a monitor or a T.V, with an HDMI port which your family doesn’t use much.

If you want, you can install the XBOX Media Centre (XBMC) on your Raspberry Pi, and, BANG! You will be enjoying watching movies on this tiny computer with your entire family! Isn’t it a fun medium of entertainment? What do you think my friends?

However, it cannot be used as a conventional computer, because opening more than two tabs on your Raspberry Pi would result in the browser to crash. Even otherwise, the network tends to slow down when the browser is opened.

Nevertheless, the Raspberry Pi perfectly integrates fun with learning, as you can install a coding programme called ‘Scratch’ and use that in turn to develop fun games! In Scratch, you must choose a Sprite, which is a character. Then you give some special code to make the game any way you like.

In conclusion, this ‘tiny’ computer portrays countless possibilities! It beautifully develops the technological awareness and programming skills amongst the younger generation. Eventually, it is this spirit that encourages technological innovation.

So, it’s a message to all the readers, technology is a boon, so nurture it, find some productive, healthy possibilities that will educate, entertain and guide us to a better living.
