St Christopher’s honours outstanding students

More than 250 students, families, honoured guests and staff attended the highly celebrated St Christopher’s Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards Evening last week.

This ceremony is held annually to recognise the School’s continuing outstanding examination success. St Christopher’s is proud to offer a wide range of subject choices, led by a specialist tutorial system and with programmes tailored to support all students to achieve their full academic potential.

The School authorities said they were delighted to see high numbers of students achieve notable academic excellence year on year. 2016/17 recognised 88 GCSE students for their academic excellence, while 10 IB and 23 A level GCE students achieved awards, and 21 students were recognised with Edexcel Special Awards for their outstanding performances.

Following the National Anthem of the Kingdom of Bahrain and addresses from Ed Goodwin OBE (Principal of St Christopher’s School), and Amanda McQuaid (Regional Development Director, Pearson Education), student ensemble, Jawhara, performed Iza Ngomso by Christopher Tin, and Trombonist and student, Marco Maggi, played Konzertino by Ferdinand David.

The GCSE Certificates were presented by Nick Wilson (Head of Senior School), assisted by Adrian Walker (Assistant Head of Senior School) and Sarah Tierney (Head of Year). The A-level and IB Diploma Certificates were presented by Nick Wilson, assisted by Hilary Rowark (Assistant Head of Senior School) and Andrew Beck (Head of Year). The Edexcel Special Awards were presented by Amanda McQuaid (Pearson Education).

The Alumni addresses were made by Ishaan Mittal, currently studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, USA and by Abdullah Elqaq, who is studying Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA. Other St Christopher’s students have gone on to study for degree courses in some of the most prestigious universities around the world.
