Indian School Bahrain celebrates Tamil Day

The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated Tamil Day at its campus in Isa Town on January 14, 2018. 

The programme which marks the first day of the four-day-long Pongal festival in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu was organized by the school’s Tamil Department. 

The Tamil Day celebration was attended by Guests of Honour Bharathi Tamil Sangam Founder Mohammed Hussain Malim, Bharathi Tamil Sangam Former President Abdul Qaiyum, ISB EC Member Premalatha N.S, Principal VR Palaniswamy, Staff Representative Johnson K Devassy, Vice Principals, Head Teachers and students.    

The programme commenced with the school prayer followed by the National Anthem of Bahrain and India, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp. 

Maths Department HOD B Senthil welcomed the gathering.  ISB EC member Premalatha N.S spoke about the beauty and the importance of Tamil language in the world and how the festival of Pongal is being celebrated over the years in Tamil Nadu.  

Haji Paul and Srikanth Sreedharan (Head Teachers of Activities) and Tamil Teacher Regi Job coordinated the programme. 

Students of IV and V   performed the Invocation Dance. The folk dance was presented by the students of VI to VIII   and the senior students performed a Tamil skit.  A group of students of IV to XII presented Tamil songs.  The winners of different competitions were awarded certificates and trophies.
