Expat woman dies in Gold Souq apartment fire
Manama : An Asian woman died here after a fire broke out in her apartment at Gold Souq on Monday evening.
The woman who passed away was identified as Annadurai Mala, 35, of Indian origin, according to sources.
The fire broke out on Monday around 9:30pm. The fire was caused by an oil lamp that was burning in the house and the blaze spread due to inflammable items kept around it, residents said.
“The woman’s husband and son are very critical in the ICU of Salmaniya Medical Complex due to the smoke inhalation,” a resident said.
“Civil Defence was able to put out a fire in a residential building in Manama. It is investigating the cause of the fire,” the Ministry of Interior said.
The body of the Asian woman will be repatriated back to a home country as soon as the legal formalities are done.
