Bahrain attends IRENA assembly

Abu Dhabi : Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussein bin Ali Mirza attended the eighth annual assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which started today in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. 

The two-day global event is being attended by around 1,100 delegates from more than 150 governments, the private sector and civil society to discuss key issues in the global energy transition.

The eighth edition of the IRENA Assembly, which represents the world’s principal platform for international cooperation on renewable energy, is being held on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which got underway today and will run until the 20th of January. 

In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), Dr. Mirza said he was honoured to represent the Kingdom of Bahrain at the annual assembly of global organization which includes 154 member countries, including Bahrain.

He said that key issues feature on the IRENA Assembly agenda, citing the report of the secretary-general on projects and renewable energy developments which revealed growing global demand.

Addressing the assembly, Dr. Mirza outlined Bahrain’s strategy to develop renewable energy and provide adequate alternatives, particularly solar energy and wind power. 
He underlined the Government’s drive to promote the work of the Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU) which was set up to develop this vital sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
