Bahrain, Malaysia eye stronger ties

ManamaBahrain is committed to strengthening its relations with Malaysia by boosting investments and bilateral trade across a range of sectors, said His Royal Highness, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister. 

Prince Salman, during a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Federation of Malaysia, Mohammad Najib Abdul Razak, at Gudaibiya Palace, also emphasised the importance of private sector in enhancing bilateral ties.  

“Malaysia’s economic achievements are phenomenal, so is the role it plays in supporting safety and security in the region particularly through its participation in the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition,” said HRH Prince Salman while underlining Kingdom’s commitment to engage in mutually beneficial cooperation.

His Highness the Crown Prince also stressed the importance of boosting official visits between the two nations to increase bilateral trade and investment. 

During the meeting, His Royal Highness welcomed the growth of relations between Bahrain and Malaysia, supported by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Najib Razak expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to meet His Royal Highness and praised the Kingdom’s commitment to furthering bilateral relations.

His Royal Highness and the Malaysian Prime Minister reviewed a range of bilateral initiatives and ways to further develop relations across various sectors. 

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss current regional and international developments and issues of mutual interest.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince also held a luncheon in honour of Razak’s visit to Bahrain. 

Earlier in the day, the Malaysian Prime Minister visited the Economic Development Board (EDB) and discussed ways to enhance trade ties in the presence of Deputy Premier, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and EDB officials.

During the visit, the Malaysian Premier was informed about EDB’s work and strategic plan.

EDB’s Chief Executive Officer, Khalid Al-Rumaihi, briefed him about EDB’s role in consolidating and supporting the economic policies of the kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and efforts to diversify the Kingdom’s economy.

Referring to EDB’s plans and strategies to develop various economic sectors, Al-Rumaihi highlighted EDB’s keenness to intensify its efforts in the current phase to consolidate investments in financial services, information and communication, logistics, manufacturing and tourism.

EDB chief pointed out that there are promising horizons to enhance economic relations with Malaysia, given the two countries’ flourishing economic march, and distinguished international status in the Islamic banking sector.

Al Rumaihi also stressed EDB’s keenness on strengthening investment cooperation with Malaysia highlighting the country’s  experience and economic weight in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

The Malaysian Prime Minister expressed his delight in visiting the EDB and for being informed about its experience in promoting Bahrain’s promising economic opportunities.
