‘2017 has been my favourite year’

LondonWorld Number 2 Roger Federer has said that his recent comeback from injury has made 2017 the favourite year of his career.

Federer has won 19 career Grand Slams, but returned to form and fitness with two this year, the Australian Open and Wimbledon - a record eighth time.

It was the first time that Federer had won a Grand Slam since 2012, and a knee injury meant that he failed to compete in the second half of the 2016 schedule.

Federer is optimistic for 2018, but said that the success he has enjoyed in 2017 means this year could well be his favourite, telling the Express.

“It’s been a massive year – perhaps my favourite! If 2018 is half as successful, then I’ll be happy.”

Federer also praised his coach, Severin Luthi, who won an award for coach of the year in Switzerland.

“Congratulations on coach of the year in Switzerland.

“So well deserved, lucky to have you on my team. You’ve been a rock in my corner for years. Thank you.”
