Bahrain women have ‘proven their ability’

Manama : Bahraini women were always at the forefront in “seizing opportunities” even though they initially encountered challenges, said Dr Janon Kadhim, Dean of College of Art and Design at Royal University for Women.

This determination, Dr Kadhim said, helped them better develop themselves personally and professionally, “until they have widely proven their ability to excel in all engineering fields”.

Dr Janon Kadhim was addressing an event organised by Royal University for Women to celebrate Bahrain Women’s Day at its premises in West Riffa.

Dr Kadhim also briefly showcased the findings of a paper entitled “Bahraini Women in The Field of Engineering: Opportunities, Challenges, and Future Expectations” presented in a conference organised by Bahrain Society of Engineers last month.

The event held under the patronage of Dr Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Women vice chairwoman, was held in the presence of Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Executive Director of INJAZ.

Several high achieving students were honoured by Shaikha Hessa on the occasion for being placed on Dean’s list during the previous academic year.

A selected number of students also received the coveted President’s award and a special Leadership award for their exceptional contribution and outstanding performance during the previous academic year.

Her Highness Shaikha Hessa also presented certificates of appreciations to a number of Bahraini women staff in both academic and administrative positions at the Royal University of Women, in recognition of their contributions.

The ceremony began with a welcoming speech by  Professor Mazin Jumaah, President of the Royal University for Women highlighting the role of women in building society and shaping the future generations in her role as a mother, wife, sister or daughter.

In the context of Bahrain’s National Day, the university also organised a number of student activities, including a charity bazaar as well as a number of sports events and competitions, in addition to an entertaining performance of traditional Laywa dancing.

Sameeneh Shirazie, Acting Director of Student Affairs, described the event as “a tribute to women worldwide, who have achieved commendable achievements in all sectors of society while continuing to nurture and raise the next generation of leaders”.
