Interior Minister directs to review report findings

Manama : Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday directed the Inspector-General and head of the permanent committee to follow up the NAO report to take the required steps to review the recommendations related to the ministry.

“The Minister asserted the importance to reinforce transparency, integrity and accountability principles in all matters related to public money, as part of the interaction with the supervisory authorities, achieve comprehensive development and build capabilities to serve the nation and protect its achievements,” a statement issued by Interior Ministry yesterday confirmed. It adds that the minister expressed thanks and appreciation to the NAO for its dedication to enhance the performance of all government sectors and achieve the required transparency to improve services provided to the public.

As reported by DT News yesterday, NAO report mentioned a couple of violations detected in Interior Ministry, mainly in the General Directorate of Traffic. The violations included non-collection of outstanding fines, lack of supervision on smart traffic monitoring cameras and unsettling a number of accidents.

 

Legislative Authority Reviews NAO Remarks

The House of Representatives Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla instructed the concerned departments in the house to review the remarks related to the violations detected in the house in NAO’s report.

He affirmed on “the keenness of the Parliament to strengthen the supervisory role of the state, to promote the principles of transparency and integrity and to continue to exercise the supervisory and legislative role in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and under the reform project and the democratic process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa”.

Additionally, the House of Representatives General Secretary Abdulla Al Dossary affirmed that the General Secretariat has taken immediate actions and procedures to tackle the remarks mentioned in NAO’s report. The report included a set of violations detected in the Parliament such as hiring unqualified employees and unjustly deducting MPs bonuses.The second branch of the Legislative Authority, Shura Council, also commented on the remarks mentioned in the report and pledged to rectify its situations.

Shura Council General Secretary Ahmed Al Tareef affirmed that the General Secretariat implemented the recommendations of the NAO, adding that “the remarks were related to simple administrative procedures.

Al Tareef commented on a report published by a local Arabic daily yesterday accusing it of committing a financial-related violation by contracting with a private food supplier, Al Tareef denied that NAO report mentioned such remarks and called upon the newspaper to “recheck its sources” ahead of publishing such accusations.

He added that Shura Council General Secretariat is committed to the provisions of the council’s bylaws and regulations.
